Introduction
Welcome to my webpage. My name is Héctor Castillo Juárez (1956). I am a Genetics and Biometrics professor at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, at the Xochimilco Campus. I teach there at the Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science School at the undergraduate level as well as at the graduate level in the Masters program in Agricultural Science.
I conduct research on Biological Evolution (sexual selection) and various other animal and vegetable production topics. I’ve been a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers since the year 2000.
Furthermore, I am a Mexican citizen who is worried about the rudimentary nature of our political system. It is for this reason that I’ve dedicated myself to working, within the parameters of my abilities and knowledge, to help consolidate our democratic system and build opportunities for modern political participation from a social democratic perspective.
What brings me to the Internet?
I come from a family forced to live in the oppressive governmental style that the political party PRI brought to Mexico for decades, where repression used to be common. My father was Heberto Castillo Martínez, who fell prisoner for his involvement in the Student Movement of 1968, where he sought democratic freedom. He founded various political parties. The biggest lesson I ever learned from Heberto is to act and think freely as a first step towards transforming ourselves and our environment for the betterment of others. This is the reason for my political work.
I also grew up in an academic environment. My mother, María Teresa Juárez is a teacher while my father was a scientist and technologist in civil engineering and developed several structural systems. I was fascinated by biology and studied veterinary medicine and animal science. This is the origin of my academic work.
